Here’s a little test for you. Pull out your wedges. Drop 10 balls down.
Find targets at about 40m, 50m, 60m, 70m, 80m, and 90m.
Choose your preferred club for each distance, hit a ball at the targets in the following sequence:
first at the 50m; then the 70m; next the 90m; drop back to the 40m; back up to the 80m;
down to the 50m; up to 90m; then the 70m; followed by the 40m again; and finally the 60m.
How many of the 10 shots you
hit at targets do you think would
have found the green, if we
imagine the target being in
the middle of a green with
a 10 pace radius?
This challenge tests your ability to control distance with your wedges.
Most golfers will find themselves with a shot from the 40m to 90m range on about 12 of 18 holes.
If you’re a higher handicap, the ability to hit the green will dramatically reduce your scores.
We’d like to see more golfers practising shots in this range more often.
We’d also like to see them just dropping balls,
and hitting 10 balls at different range targets, rather than 10 balls
all at the same target. If you’d like help with this challenge, or
additional shorter-game drills, then please
